How to save money while studying abroad

Congratulations on deciding to study abroad!

This new adventure will be filled with experiences and fun. Are you ready?

We know that, like in any new beginning, you may have doubts and fears, but we just want you to relax and enjoy the journey.

A common topic we discuss with our students who decide to embark on this same path is budgeting. Clearly, it's important to know how to manage your finances to cover everything you need and still have fun.

With this new experience, come new expenses, such as food, rent, utilities (electricity, water, internet), and of course, tuition fees. Also, consider the costs of obtaining the necessary documents to enter the university or live legally in the country.

Our recommendation: Stick to a budget and save as much as you can.

How? Here are some tips for you to make the most of your study abroad trip without spending that much money:

  • Set a monthly savings goal: Consider the money you will need to live and set a monthly savings goal based on your possibilities.

  • Choose affordable accommodation: Consider staying in a student residence or sharing an apartment with other students, as this can help reduce expenses.

  • Cook at home: We also love eating something delicious, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Prepare your own meals, buy groceries from the supermarket, and cook at home, as it's much cheaper than eating out.

  • Use public transportation: It may take a bit more time and some confusion, but it's an economical option that will allow you to get to know the city better.

  • Limit your leisure expenses: How? Find free or inexpensive activities near your home or workplace. There are likely places like parks or museums waiting for you.

Don't stop enjoying yourself, saving doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself of everything. Just be mindful of your expenses and look for ways to reduce them so you can make the most of your experience abroad without financial worries.

Always keep in mind that even though it will be a new environment, you shouldn't get carried away and fall into careless spending and impulse purchases. You won't be on vacation, this will be your new life.
